Edward Gregory
The Waste Project is the idea of Edward Gregory, 25, originally from Derbyshire, UK.
Theatre has always been at the heart of my life. My journey began at the age of 3 when I started at a local dance school not leaving until I was 19. Aged 14, I spread my interest by joining a local amateur dramatics company. I went on to train as an actor at East 15 Acting School graduating in 2006 with a degree in Contemporary Theatre.
I started the ‘Next On Theatre’ company (www.nextontheatre.co.uk) with two
friends. We wrote ‘Painters’ a comical physical theatre show. It was a sell out
at Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2006 before touring the UK. I moved on to be a Blue Man with the
world famous Blue Man Group (www.blueman.com)
performing in Berlin and New York.
But What about the environment side?
Growing up in a home which recycled everything from bottles and paper to aluminium and compost planted an early seed. During the last two years I have become increasingly interested in environmental issues as the effects of Global Warming have become more apparent. After reading articles and watching countless documentaries I decided that I needed to do whatever I could for the cause. Becoming a vegetarian and recycling everything was a start. Whilst living in New York I gained the nickname Hobo for salvaging furniture left on the street and refurbishing it for my apartment. Sounds not so nice, but trust me, New Yorkers throw out some amazing things.
Understanding it is a global problem and with my background in theatre the idea of an entertainment project to tackle the issue began to evolve.
Moving to Mexico City from New York I worked full time on ideas for The Waste Project. 6 months later it is coming together and time to get people involved.
‘Thank you for taking an interest in this important project. Together we can change our future’
